This is my Blogging PD Wiki
The term, web log or "blog" appeared in the late 90's, but its history includes electronic internet communications starting nearly 10 years earlier. For more history on this, take a look at the Wikipedia page about Blogging.
Blogging is part of what people are calling Web 2.0, the newest development of the net that is characterized by an interactive online environment. This includes social networking capability and is referred to by some as the Read/Write Web.
I include these notes to emphasize the nature of these new online tools. Many people have thought of blogs as online diaries, but with their ability to link to other's posts, comment on postings, and build knowledge from many people's understanding, they are so much more!
As George Siemens is quoted: "Learning is no longer an internal, individualistic activity..."which implies that knowledge is now built between people. Big implications for the nurturers of learners.....
Oh, and if you don't know about blogging "Shame on you!" and Read This!
